tricare and trying to get pregnant..

Hi my name is Bethany, I'm 21 years old, my hubby is air force and we've been married for 4 years.

Recently I saw my PCM and asked her what I need to do about getting referred to an OB/Gyn since my DH said yes to trying for a baby. All she could tell me is I have to have a positive PG test before I can get a referral... Is this normal or should I really push to get referred?

Any help is appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

No , just call the obgyn office on post and make an apt . Tell them your having problems and need to be seen . Or you need your yearly and bring it up once your there . Your obgyn will see you for about a year usually before giving a referral to a fertility spec ( tricare covers this!) if your lucky they will send you sooner but usually not until the year mark . This is the process we went through . Good luck !

I've always gotten a referral after getting pregnant, I think that's pretty normal. An OB can't do much for you until you're actually pregnant.

They can run blood test , scans to make sure your tubes are not blocked ect . I seen an obgyn for a year before they would refer to a spec and they did a ton of test

That's true, but she didn't say anything about having trouble getting pregnant.  She said they've been married for 4 years and her husband has just agreed to having a baby.  As long as she isn't having any problems currently, her PCM will not do a referral.  It sounds like OP wants one just because they are "trying"...which doesn't warrant a referral until a positive pregnancy test.

I don't have a women's health clinic on post and there have been issues in my family with the female health that worries me. I do have a yearly coming up but I don't need a referral to see an ob/Gyn off post.. I don't know this is all so confusing for me not to mention I still need to get my IUD removed...

My obgyn was inside the hospital on post . If you do not need a referral to see one off post then go see that one ! Lol I don't understand what the issue is,or why its confusing? You have to start there , tell the obgyn your plans , your worries ect . They will give you info and then after a few months (6-8)start monitoring and doing test . You do not need to see a fertility spec until you've been trying for a year or more (that's how they see it). so you have to start at your obgyns office . Sorry if I am wrong but haven't you been in the TTC group for a few months now ? Your screen name looks familiar .

Why does everyone talk about refferals all the time? As a dependent, active, reservist, I've never needed referrals or preaproval for anything on or off base. Just curious.
