Are we the only group that categorically does not allow the use of the R word?

I have always liked and respected that about this group. I commend you all, ladies. I honestly appreciate that.

But are we the only ones? I saw it in another group today and it made my skin crawl.

What was the context? It doesn't bother me if used like "chemical x will retard the growth of weeds" - but to insult someone by calling them retarded or a retard is not cool.

Words carry a lot of weight. They can start or end wars, they can defame or comfort people.

When some people do use that word though they dont mean it the way its implied they usually mean stupid.
