Turbo Tax and rank..?

ladies, I am just now starting to fill out our taxes on Turbo Tax, well one of the things is asking about rank. to get started?

 i am confused on what to put. we made e-6 last year, put on the chevrons last year, but we never saw e-6 pay till jan.

so i should put e-5 right?

My understanding is that it is the CURRENT rank of the service member.

i have done our taxes with turbo tax for the past 4 years, I dont ever remember them asking his rank..

is this new?

I noticed the same thing. They created some "military" option so that questions would be about deployments, combat pay, etc. I don't remember why it asked about rank, though.

I used turbo tax. It asks about rank because E4 and below it is free to file both fed and state, E5 and up there is a small fee.

I thought if it was E5 and below it was free with the military option and E6 and up was 20 bucks.

Your right, I put E4 in my reply, but it is E5 and below.

I heard it was only free for  E-6 and below this year for that program.  We never used turbo tax though.  We always use program Military One Source offers, which is free for all military.
