For those who have lived or live on post housing what or some pros and cons? My dh and I are considering living on post when we pcs this summer. I have never lived on post before. Have any of you found you end up saving or losing money? Thanks!

We are saving money living off post. We always make sure bah covers rent and utilities as well as a portion of something else. Here we can also pay about half of our cable bill with what's left of bah.

Depends on where you are stationed, rank, and such.

on a side note, if you use the search tab, you'll find a ton of posts about this topic...

At lower ranks, it has been easier for us to live on post, especially since I am not working. When we both had jobs and lived off post it was fine, but it would have been tough if we just had his paycheck.

I have lived on post for 3 months of the last 12.5 years. I will never do it again willingly.

The houses where we are stationed, for my husbands rank, are super shit-holes. We have lived on post in the past, and it was pleasant. We were the very first people to live in the house.

1 mom liked this
The house was horrible. The neighbors were horrible. I like to not be involved in the military 24/7. I like choosing my house, my neighborhood and I usually wouldn't send my kids to the schools on or near post.
