Home Coming Before Deployment???

Baby daddy is in the military and will getting deployed in late August. Before he got told about his deployment he was told by his Sergeant Major that he was able to come home for a month before. The time he was able to come home keeps changing, now he's getting told he can't come home until after but he said he wont know until the end of this month.

A friend of mine's dad was in the military said that they get told they can come home before deployment to make them feel better, but they actually wont be able to.

Is there any possibility that he can come home before? Does this usually happen?

To make them feel better?  what kind of crock is that?  He might.  He said he would know in a month, so he would know in a month.  But that is subject to change.  The military is worse than a woman - forever changing their minds at the last minute...

You'll only know for sure when he is back on your doorstep.

Block leave is usually 2 weeks before a deployment and 2 weeks after. They also get 15 days of R&R at some point during the deployment. All of it is subject to change. It wouldn't be unusual to have it cancelled. You just never know ... because shit happens.

uhhh what? To make them feel better they lie to them? That's fucked up.

My DH took a long weekend and went up to visit his parents before his deployment, but it had nothing to do with the army letting them all just go home. He did that on his own.

Thank you for the info :) hopefully things go this way! I haven't seen him since November when our son was 2-3 months old.
