How much is your renters insurance policy for?

This is kind of a rude question I think, so I am anon for this.

I am trying to figure out if my renters insurance policy is set for the right amount. Geicos estimate calculator shoots way lower than when I mess with my policy on USAA.

We are a homeschooling family of 4 with a normal amount of stuff. I set my policy to $48,000. What are your policy amounts?

We don't rent as we own our home...I can't remember what our policy used to be...our tenants have renter's insurance in our rental home though...

It all depends on what you own, how much stuff you have, and what it's worth...everyone's amounts will be different.

I haven't had renters in a long time, but my big suggestion is to make sure that your policy covers replacement value.  Not surprisingly, many insurance companies don't make replacement value the norm for homeowners or renters and you need to be very specific.

I found USAA to be one of the more expensive ones. We paid $13/mo for our renters with State Farm. I think we had around $65,000 or so.

We are in FL so ours is super expensive. At our last base we paid about $15/month. We are paying $65/month here for the exact same amount.

You might consider looking into it. A few weeks ago a fire took out a bunch of apartments and 10 military people who were living there lost everything. Only 1 had renters insurance!

Quoting Mrs.Brugger:

i didnt ever get renters insurance.
