Kindergarten - does your district do this?

Staggered entry.

Entering kindergarten students in our district don't start school full-time for almost two weeks after other students. The first week of school, they go in for one hour, one day for assessment. The next week, half the class goes half a day, every other day, with the whole class attending half a day on Friday. Then, after Labor Day, they all attend.

My older children went through a staggered entry, but nothing this protracted.

Not 100% sure on this one. I know that my daughter's Kindergarten assessement is scheduled for the day after everyone else starts, but I think that following monday, they jump in. I will let you know at the end of August when she starts.

Is this to help them transition?

1 mom liked this
It didnt matter so much in the past, but I've accepted a teaching position, so I will be working all that time.

I'm not certain what I'm going to do about child care. Guess grandma will get a call today.

that makes no sense... then half the kids get to know each other that first week! :/ that is weird... I could understand if they did like 2 hours the first week, 1/2 day the second and then full schedule..

I have no idea. Mine isn't school aged yet, so I haven't paid attention. But what is the reasoning behind that?
