My daughter enlisted in the Army in December.  she leaves June 16th for Fort Leonard Wood...2 weeks before her 18th birthday.  Her MOS is transportation specialist (driver).  I am looking for any feedback on your daughter's experience in the Army, if they have been to Ft Leonard Wood, and if any of them were drivers.  Thanks!

So not a good experience?  She will be there for Boot Camp and AIT school...17 weeks.

Leonard Wood isn't that bad! They get much more free time than they use to there. They are building it up and getting some new restraunt chains in. Granted we were stationed there. I liked it and would go back! But I want to live out the South Gate.

Didn't say that. Its just in the middle of no where. We were only there for 6 months, there was a wal-mart, McDonalds and some horriable resturaunt Aussie Jacks(?)

Not sure when you were there, but we left in 2012. Aussie Jacks was still there, very much a crappy knock off of Outback. They have added a culvers, something like a Texas Roadhouse. Heard they are suppose to be getting a Target! Go figure after I leave. Granted if they get a pass they could try Springfield, Lake Ozark, or even St Louis!

we were there 6 years ago. They were in the middle of some renovations all over post and the place was a mess. They put us in housing that was slated for demolition b/c we were only going to be there for 6 months. Let me tell you how much fun that was. And I don't know how Aussie Jacks stays in business.... that food was awful. We did go to Springfield and to Branson.

Oh, Fort Loving the woods!!! I hope she has a good experience. Extremely hot during the summer. But I prefer the heat. We greatly miss that base! So much outdoor activities to do. THey even have a putt putt, go karts, and a huge awesome pool and water slide area there! Be sure to write her lots of letters.

My son just graduated from BCT there, same MOS as your DD. He was in the old barracks for BCT, but said he liked that better b/c the rooms were 6 guys in a room. He's in the new barracks for his AIT and really likes those.
Said Basic wasn't bad, b/c every day he and his battle buddy were like "well that could have been worse"  The DS were tough, but for the most part fair
There's a USO on base when she gets to her AIT. The main chapel is very nice and son said he liked all the pastors, they really preach sermons to the serivce members
