Speaking of MTFs

I had an appointment this morning at 10:50 with my PCM...well, not really my PCM but some family practice doctor.  At 11:10, when I hadn't been called back yet, I went up to ask if they were behind or something...the girl called back and found out it would be another 10 minutes.  Really?  30 minutes behind seeing the doctor?  Her only answer was that earlier patients took longer than expected.  I get that doctors run behind and things happen...no problem.  But what made me frustrated was that their policy states if you are more than 5 minutes late to your appointment the doctor has the right to refuse to see you.  I'm dead serious.  That's the rule.  So, we can't be more than 5 minutes late, but they can take their sweet time making us wait upwards of 30 minutes?  That doesn't seem fair.

I get back there, meet this doctor, who was very nice, but who rushed me in and out like no one's business.  I was in the room with the tech for less than 5 minutes, then the doctor came in, talked to me for less than 5 minutes and then I was out.  She said they were short 6 doctors in the family practice clinic and they have 4 doctors they will be hiring within the next few months.  So, they are super busy and seeing patients as fast as they can.

This, folks, is how mistakes happen and how things are overlooked when doctors are in a hurry and careless.

Thank goodness this isn't the hospital where I take my son for all his specialists...they are NOTHING like that.  I wasn't very happy.  My husband wants me to call Tricare and see about changing to another MTF in the area for my PCM.

It wasn't a primary care doctor, but when I was being seen at an orthopedic's office. This place is highly recommended too. I went for my appt that was scheduled for around 3 pm. I was still sitting in the lobby at 5:15 pm. I wasn't happy when the receptionist said that they had been running at least two hours behind since around 11am. Why they don't call the later appts to re-schedule was beyond me. Then the doctor rushed through the whole appt because it was past time for them to go home. She spent at most 10 minutes with me. Oh, and I had a question for the doctor when the nurse came to give me a script, and she had already left. It hadn't even been five minutes since she left m room. I made a complaint.

Oh my goodness.  That is beyond ridiculous!  They should have rescheduled all the afternoon appointments if they were running that late.  Wow!  Was this at an MTF I'm guessing?  I'm glad you made a complaint.  I take it you didn't go back there?

No, it was an independent ortho office. We were under the Tricare Reserve Select coverage, so I made a complaint to Tricare as well for having them as a provider so they would at least know they paid for a sub-standard level of care.

It was the second time it happened at that office, so I was fed up.

During my last pregnancy with DS I had to switch from civilian to MTF because we moved one minute closer to the MTF after moving. My first appointment at the military hospital I waited 2 hrs past my appointment time. And I had a high risk pregnancy. Apparently the OB had an emergency so instead of telling me they just let me sit in the waiting room for that long and felt that it was ok to do so.

I have so many stories, at this point I would rather pass away, then go in for anything. Lol I really try extra hard to be healthy just to avoid going to the Doctor.

I routinely wait more than 1.5 hrs past my appt time for appts at Langley. It used to be worth it when I had a good PCM. Now I have one that is no help at all.

I was no-showed for literally being 2 minutes late once. For a school physical, they had a zero tolerance. I was hot!!! You make me wait for hours but when I'm 2 min late you no show me???!!!

I used to go to a GYN practice that was always running behind--it was so frustrating.  Waiting 1-2 hours was nothing.  If someone went into labor--which was pretty much every day--you got the option of rescheduling 3-4 months in the future or waiting.  If they were just "busy" that day, it was expected you would just wait it out.  I loved my doctor but got fed up with the way their practice was managed and found someone new.  It is infuriating that the patient is expected to arrive 10-15 minutes early, but the doctor can run late.  Ugh.
