This post is for sharing advice, asking questions and personal stories about sending care packages.

Here are some of the top tips for sending care packages:

  • Using the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes will save you money if sending packages overseas. These boxes are eligible for use with an APO or FPO. They will NOT arrive in 3 business days, but you will save on postage versus sending a regular shipping box.
  • The most requested non-food items are: socks, underwear, sun block, lip balm, baby wipes, powder, books, magazines and flip flops.
  • Some of the most popular requested food items are: beef jerky, granola bars, nuts, powdered water infusers, trail mix, snack cakes, gum, energy bars, and home made items that will travel well.
  • Make sure you wrap your packages very carefully. Boxes are travel a long distance and can take a beating in transport.
  • Pictures and letters from home are the most desirable gifts.
  • Do not send anything that will melt.
  • Do not send anything that is on the USPS Standard Prohibited and Restrictions Items list.

Are there companies that prepare and send care packages? I am so behind on packages for my son.
