Emma went to the surgeon on 10-16 as a follow up for her bronchoscopy done 7-18. The bronch looked perfect and they tried to decannulate then but she wasnt moving air consistantly enough yet so he said she just needed time to grow. At the appointment the dr wanted to see how she would do with it out and he plugged it and said well I think she's ready. It was a shock since he said at the scope 6 months to a year. We were admitted to the hospital on 10-22 and he came up and pulled it and we came home 24 hours later minus the trach!
Emma is like a whole new baby. She came home and magically had the ability to sit, started putting everything she can get ahold of in her mouth and she is even jumping in her jumperoo. She is acting like she feels so much better and is making progress like crazy now! We are so happy and excited! She even sleeps through the night without oxygen now but she needed to be in 23% when she was asleep with the trach. We are so proud of her!

How awesome..you must be so proud of her. We are patiently waiting for our day without a trach. Zach is 4 1/2 years old and has had a trach since he was 3 mos. old. We also had a ventilator for 1 1/2 years. We are ready to be decannulated. We have to go at least this Winter yet with a trach. We just got off of daytime oxygen and still need it for naps and at night. So we are making progress. If you wish to check us out go to: www.caringbridge.org/visit/zacharyjohnstone Thanks for sharing your wonderful news.
Ian did the same thing when his trach came out. He started sitting up and started putting everything back in his mouth. He so does enjoy being without his 'leash'. We haven't figured out if he actually realized that the trach was gone and that it meant no more leash. But it definitely isn't quiet anymore.
Wait until she figures out the volume control of her voice!!:)
