Hello everyone! My name is Crystal. My daughter Lily is 4 months old and has been trached since she was 3 months. As it is getting closer to discharge time in the NICU, the doctors and social workers are getting extremely nervous with sending her home. They have been talking about sending her to an acute rehab facility afterwards!!! I am perfectly capable of taking care of my daughter and her special needs! My question is, Have any of you ever experienced anything like this with the doctors being "scared" to send your child home? I feel horrible, as if they dont trust me! Please help!
Have they told you WHY they are nervous? Is she not stable on a trach? if shes not stable in the hospital i would push to keep her there and not send her home, but if shes stable and you guys are just sitting there wasting time, then shoot get her home!! Are you being discharged wiht home health nurses? Maybe that could ease there mind, and if they say no, then you ahve yoru insurance say its cheaper to be at home and pay for home care than sit in the hopsital and do the same, PLUS shes at more risk of infection with her open airway in teh hopstial, why are they risking all that? Has she always been in the hopsital? or have you been able to have her home for a bit? I can imagine you are anxious to get her in her own bed! My son was hospitalized for the first 6.5 weeks of life, and then we had home care nursing for 3 years, this time around we are doing it all by ourselve, but he is older and less medically fragile.
SHes a cutie pie! why was she trached? Let me know if you need any other questions answered :)
hang in there.

I have had that happen to me. My son was hospitalized for one day short a month. We had to have in house nursin though in order to bring him home. We got all ready to leave the hospital to go home and they decided to come in and tell me never mind we are not going home because they couldn't enough nurses to help right away.. But they really didn't have a choice i told them i was takin him home with or with out nursin.. And i did it just fine. At fist it was scary but now it's a breeze. I hope you got to bring her home and everything is going good for you guys.. Good Luck..
my son is 3 yrs old now and has had his trach since he was 12 days old so its been a while. i do remember that where we live i had to be trained along with someone else to care for my son in order for him to go home. my mother stepped up and tried to help me and for a moment there i thought she was going to give up cause she got scared. because of this the hospital people were scared too and told me if i cant find someone else they were going to send him about 45min to an hour away from where i live (connecticut) or somewhere in upstate new york. imagine my desperation when they told me that and when my mom was told this she really came through for us and did what she had to for us. but that was not all we also was having problem with stafffing nursing help but at the last moment we got it. so you are not alone in this just prove to them you can take care of your child.
