John 3:17 (New International Version)
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Wait a minute! What just happened? A country that was so focused just hours ago on the nation’s capitol now shifted along with the rest of the world to a small country called Haiti. We all anxiously wait for the latest news after the terrible earthquake. A 7.0 earthquakes doesn’t come along every day. This type of an earthquake in a place like Haiti is deadly. Somehow in the all the rubble and devastation that we see on our TV’s and computers, I feel that we are finally concentrating on the right thing – people. It’s easy to get caught up in the politics of our nation and the hub bub of the latest movie hitting the scene. We love our latest gadgets that we feel connect us to the world around us, but disconnect us to what really matters – people.
I have been to Haiti a few times. I have friends in Haiti that I am praying for right now. PAG has two schools that we support full of children and teachers that I pray are ok. My heart is going out in the direction that I believe God’s heart is going – towards people. People are the reason why God sent His Son Jesus Christ to this world. Not just your neighborhood. Certainly not just the U.S. God has a global approach because He made this globe and filled it with people. Jesus said He didn’t come to this earth to be served. He came to serve, give His life for people. His people. The people that He loves so very much. You, me and the man buried in rubble on a street that heavy equipment cannot reach.
I talked to my kids this morning about this man. We talked about how lost that person may feel as he wonders if help will ever come. I pray that it will. I also pray that our eyes will open to the person sitting next to us today who is buried under the weight of sin. They too are lost and I wonder if we will take the time to listen for their cry for help. Will we take the time to pull the wreckage of life off of them and introduce them to Jesus who loves them so very much? People matter to God. People in Haiti and those we see every day.
Today, pray for Haiti. Pray for God to use this moment to bring what people really need – GOD. Pray that Jesus Christ be glorified in this moment. Pray for our missionaries in Haiti. Pray that God will use them in this moment to show the love of Christ. Pray for wisdom, protection and resources to flow through them to the people of Haiti. Pray also for those will meet today. Pray that God will send us to people that need us in our work place, school, neighborhood.
Life does not stop because of an earthquake. Today we go to work, take the kids to school and go about our day. But my prayer is that we get refocused on what really matters – people whom God loves so very much. The question to ask ourselves today – do we?

Amen! This earthquake was disturbing and did cause me to refocus. I have prayed for the people suffering from this tragedy as well. I also think that these troubles tend to come in waves.
Like aftershocks... since this event occurred I have also noticed more upheaval and unrest in my own home & family... and in those around me. Like attacks, seems to me these natural physical out lashes tend to coincide with spiritual, personal upheavals.
Look up... our redemption is near. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Good post!
