Deuteronomy 7:6 (New International Version)

“For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.”

I was talking to a young person the other day who was obviously having a difficult time in life.  I encouraged them by telling them that I believed  in them and so did someone else.  I asked them what they thought God thinks about them.  Their answer was sad, but  unfortunately far too common.  This teenager answered, “God thinks I’m a brat!”  Wow!  After assuring  them that God didn’t feel  that way, but the complete opposite they listened to what God thought about them.  This young person’s mood has changed a lot since then.

We are God’s treasures, not His trash.  We have all made huge mistakes, but that doesn’t cause God to devalue us.  In our verse, God reminds the Israelites that he handpicked them from all the nations in the world.  They were the ones He chose to be His people.  We now through Christ belong to God.  His love for us is based on His covenant with us through Christ.  He chose us, we did not choose Him.   He found  us, not the other way around.  Out of all the junk in the world, God saw us in our pitiful selfish and helpless state and said, “Now there is a treasure!”  Did we look like one?  No.  Did we act like  one?  No.  But  God doesn’t see what we look like to place value on us.  God saw our stupidity, but that didn’t cause Him to quit His pursuit of us.  God knows we are valuable because He made us that way.  His love is not based on what we can do for Him.  He chose you and I simply because He loves us.

Now if we are God’s treasures, how do you think He takes care of us?  How do you take care of what you value?  Hopefully you invest in it.  You protect it and make sure that it is kept safe.  God knows how to take care of what is His.  If He takes care of the birds in the air, how much more His people.  Begin to walk in your treasured anointing, not your trash talking, trash walking defeated mentality.  Today walk in your true identity… You are God’s treasure!
