Diabetes after baby?

I have had GD twice with both my pregnancies...never was able to really control it with diet and with the last one (12/2/08) I had to take a pill in the morning.

My question is: Has anyone developed diabetes after giving birth?  Insulin controlled?

My sister started with GD and now has diabetes all the time.  She has always had to take insulin with GD.  We also have a lot of diabetes in our family (both parents, several granparent/aunts/uncles/etc).

Well you are at greater risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, but that is especially true if you are overweight.  I have a strong family history of Type 2 diabetes, my dad is on insulin for it, my sister on oral meds and many aunts and uncles have it as well.  Currently I am a very healthy 109 lbs and strive to stay that way.  My sugars are monitored on a yearly basis b/c of the family history and my 2 GD pregnancies, but my doctor is confident that as long as I take care of myself and stay healthy it will not be a problem for me :)
