Okay i have a question.  I had my baby Aug 13 I had GD was on insulin all day and at night.  Well after my 6 weeks my blood sugars seem to have gone back to being normal.  Well I decided to check my sugars tonight (b/c I felt funny and I been for awhile, also been super thirsty) and it was 212 and this was three hours after I ate.  I had fries and a chicken wrap (grilled chicken).  I know I have only checked it once since I was told I was ok and didn't have Diabetes but could I have it now even though I was fine after birth (I had a few high numbers in the hospital but when I came home they were all fine).  I am going to keep checking them then go from there but I figured it couldnt' hurt to ask.

Well having GD increases your risk of becoming a diabetic.  A wrap and fries has a lot of carbs, but still a non-diabetic doesn't go over 120.  You may want to talk to your doctor about te high reading!

I would definitely let your doctor know, you shouldn't have high sugars regardless of what you ate.  Sounds like some further testing would be warranted.

I talked to my dr and he did a AC1 test i think its called and it came back fine so he said I had nothing to worry about.  I am going to keep checking my sugars every now and then to make sure b/c my fastings are still high and some of my after meals are.

It is called an A1c, he said it was "fine" but he tell you exactly what it was?  It should be a number.  I would ask because some doctors go by different standards.

A non diabetic usualy has an A1c of about 5, but it can be between 4.5 and 6.

If you have a result between 6 and 6.5 you are considered a pre-diabetic and anything over 6.5 is considered a positive diagnosal of diabetes.

When I was diagnosed 7 years ago I had an A1c of 11, which is pretty darn high.  They want diabetics to be at a 7 or less.  My last A1c, done two months ago I was at 5.7.  So while I now have the A1c results of a non-diabetic, I'm a type 2 diabetic and if I wasn't watching my diet and taking my meds it would be a lot higher.  I just have good control of my diabetes!
