So the practice that i have my Dr is a set of 4. So what they do is they let you have appointments with all 4 a few times and then ill just have my primary Dr. Well I finally got to see my Primary Dr this past monday. and he was looking at the notes from the othe Drs and one of the other Drs said that i didnt have gestational i had Type 2. but my Dr said that there really isnt any way of knowing if its Type 2 intill after i have the baby. He asked me if i was diagnosed with Type 2 before being pregnant and i said no. So he said so as of right now i have gestational diabetes.. and then 6 to 12 weeks after having the baby we will go another 3 hour test to see if the diabete levels are still there.., if they are then ill have type 2. I plan on losing a ton of weight since getting preg i never lost the weight from my son.. so i plan on losing around 80 lbs. my question is.. has any one else had this dianoses from their Dr trying to tell them they have Type 2 instead of gestational?
no. I think it's silly since there is no ay of knowing. I woldn't worry about it. On eof the nurses at my practice tried to tell me that and you know what I had my baby in July and for just about 5 days after the delivery my sugars were bad. Now everything is fine I just have to be screened every year for it but goo so far.
I know with my son I was gestational and after I had him, about 7 wks after my primary sent me for a fast bloodtest, I didn't do the same glucose test as with GD, just a bloodtest, and it resolved itself and I was not type 2. The treatment should be the same even with type 2 in your pregnancy, as to blood monitoring, your diet, and possibly insulin if needed. I have read that women that have GD are likely to develop type 2 within 5 yrs of when they had GD. So, just make sure you f/up with your primary to make sure your GD resolves. I hope this helps :)
So lets say worst case senerio you do have type 2 diabetes and it continues even after your baby is born. I have heard stories of people curing type 2 through diet and exercise.. Now i tried this cleansing method for a period of two years at one point my life, and I still have diabetes.. but like I said before, I've always been very close to type 1 since both my parents had/have diabetes as well.. so for me personally it's very genetic.
But in your case, since you are planning to loose weight, you may be able to cure the diabetes that lingers after birth. Stick to the diet your on now, get plenty of exercise, take your prescribed medicines and with time you may notice your amout of medicine lowering until you take none at all, in effect curing your diabetes. Also if you plan on breastfeeding, that will help as well. I just had a nutrionist tell me this evening that breastfeeding aids your glucose tolerance better than even injecting insulin. Plus you burn colories, so that will help with weight loss.
Of course you will probably have to adjust to this lifestyle permanently, and believe you me, it can suck at times.. seriously, a life without ice-cream (my personal weakness). Sometimes I feel insulin injections are worth the price of being able to eat ice-cream once in a while.
Anyways, I hope this help.. in the end after your baby is born, it will all be personal choice. If diabetes is strongly genetic for you then the whole theroy that I proposed may not work for you either. Best of Luck girl!
