shouldnt my number be through the roof?? *update* yet another wierd occurance...
so for lunch i had a turkey sandwich with mayo, mustard, and wheat bread. I usually watch what I eat (duh..kinda have to) but today i splurged big time. After my sandwich I had at least 4 peices of mint chocolate candy (about the size of a cookie each). And my number 2 hours after eating it was only 103. Should they have been higher since i was diagnosed with hyperglycemia? This stuff makes no sence to me. I chcked and made sure my meter was working right and it was. I wonder why it didnt sky-rocket. Anyone might know why?
update*** Maybe someone can help me understand whats going on here because Im a little lost. I know I should have cereal..especially cereal with crazy processed sugar but i was craving fruit loops this morning and could stand it anymore, so I had a bowl. I knew that once I tested, my numbers SHOULD be high...unfortunatly i fell back asleep and missed testing period by about an hour and a half. Well when I woke up from my nap I was shaking like leaves on a tree. I tested and my number was 65....again..should my sugar levels be higher since I ate what I ate? Any help understanding whats going on would be great! Thanks. (tried to call the dr to ask but ahe was of course busy like always)

Think you just found a meal your body and baby likes. that happens to me too sometimes like whe ni think i eat too much. the other day wentto taco bell ( was craving bad) I had a mexican pizza, taco supreme , diet pepsi, and a mexi melt and my level after 1 hr was 123 !!! I was like sweet !!!. But them there are days like my breakfast I ate a cup of vanilla yogurt and 8oz FF milk and level after 1hr was 153 !! Go Figure?!?!?! This is my 3rd preganacy with GD and it still stumps me at times !!!. I am also on insulin too now at time of meals breakfast and b4 dinner were 5u of N but starting this past tuesday Dr bumped it to 10 u of N @ both. Numbers still not as steady control like I wantbut will get there.
I know it's weird. I can eat a Wendy's cheese burger and small fri and test in the 90s but if I eat a Mc D's cheese burger (no fries) I'm in the 130's. I made tacos at home and had only 2 (so, that is 30g carbs) and was in the 130s but can eat 2 granola bars (also 30 carbs) and be in the low 100s. If I eat an apple I'm high but I can eat 2 clementines (a type of orange) and be in the 80's.
You learn what works for you then stick to those foods.

There are two main types of carbs and protein: simple and complex.
When most people eat at fast food joints, the buns are made of simple flour/simple sugar. Whole wheat bread takes longer AND more energy for your body to process; therefore, would actually LOWER your blood sugar. Turkey breast, especially less processed ones, like oven roasted and NOT from a fast food, are good protein source because it contains less fat and grease. Protein in general takes longer to digest, like beef and lamb. Chocolate increases the blood flow of your body and lowers your blood sugar at first, the same concept as small amount of red wine; however, blood glucose is cumulative...it builds up over time.
I am also hyperglycemic, and if I sleep after I eat, my blood sugar drops like crazy too. One thing I've learned from my research is that glucose is sugar, and your body needs fuel to move. If you move LESS, your body will focus on storing the sugar as fat or in your liver. Another thing is stress, I'm naturally stressed out all the time, and sleeping/napping relaxes me. So I try to take LOTS of naps on my day off after eating, that helps ALOT.
