I am 13 weeks pregnant and I was brushing my teeth last night and my gums were bleeding.  This is my 6 th pregnancy and I really never had this problem before.  I am going to schedule an appointment with my dentist,  I read in my pregnancy book that this sometimes happens.  I was just wondering what causes it.

The reason your gums bleed during pregnancy is due to hormonal changes in your body. The pH balance in your saliva changes when your hormones change. You just need to have your teeth cleaned and be sure to floss daily.
