Do you feel that allowing YOUR kid to have a cell phone is a positive thing? How did you teach them how to use it for good and not abuse the privilege?
My son has a cell phone, but it is for emergencies only. He only has it on him when he is away from me, not including school. So in case we get seperated I can find him.
i didnt have a cellphone til i was 18.. but like my mom says, she didnt have one til she was about 32 years old.. with time, come changes. when my kids are old enough that they're out playing with friends in the neighborhood, or they're old enough to go to games by themselves, friends houses all the time, stuff like that- they'll have a cell phone. but they'll need to understand whatever they say in the phone, thru text or voice- is MY business, and if they cant respect that, then they wont be going anywhere without me for long periods of time.
We live in the country, so there is no going down the block to play with their friends. I see no reason for my kids to have cell phones till they are highschool. They can't go anywhere were they would need one.
My 12 yr old daughter has one. We originally got it for her because she was always on the go with softball, but I have found that it is sooo much easier now that she has one. If I'm running late picking her up from school, etc.
With that said, I pay extra to have control over her phone. I can control via computer when her phone is on or off, which numbers can call her/can't call her, and location services. :D
My 11 year old has one and we use it only when he is at soccer so far. Will use it this summer at amusement parks and such too.
