Hi ladies,

Do you have a similar parenting style to your mom's? How does your parenting style differ?

I am very much like my mother in many ways.  She had many wonderful qualities that I find myself handing off to my own children.  She was extremely nurturing, kind, loving, fair and instilled in me the importance of a moral code to live by.

I am in therapy now because of how my mom "mothered" me. So no, nothing like her, I don't know how someone could treat their young children that way, I live mine too much

Yes, I am.

I am very proud of that. Because if my mother hadn't of been the way she was, I wouldn't have grown up to be whom I am today. She expected the best out of me, and I still work hard and strive to do my best to this day.

Shes made me a strong independent woman, and I thank God for that. I may not have liked her when I was younger, but now being a mother myself, I am thankful and understand why she was the way she was.

I am the exact opposite.  Had a counselor tell me that either you parent like your parents or are the exact opposite.   My parents believed in corporal punishment and were bullies as far as I was concerned.  My mother complains about my parenting skills but they had their turn.

I'm not really sure. My only son is 4yrs old. I find myself sounding like her but I think I'm a bit different. I think I'm a lil less strickt. Maybe. I'm not really sure how to answer this.

mmm, not really. There are definatly a few things that I do discipline/child rearing wise that are similar to things my mom did, but they've been tweeked by me to take the strict edge off.  I'd have to say the only things I really do the same are watching(and introducing my kids to) all the corny Christmas movies, and a few discipline tactics(although again those have been adapted to work for my kids and family) My mom and dad are very strict and went way overboard on way too many things. I have adopted a parenting style that meets in the middle between my parents way strict ways and my husbands parents way not strict ways...along with things I've found work best by trying different methods of discipline etc.

How she was when we were growing up...comepletely opposite.  She had a job that was 60+ hours a week.  Rarely saw her.  I'm a SAHM.  When she was home, she was fun to be around...which I think I'm trying to model myself after
