We have lived in our place for just over a year, last summer our neighbor bought he grandson a nice new wooden swing set.  She is the raising her grandson, he is about 5 years old, her daughter (kids mom) showed up and  is staying with them.  A few weeks ago the daughter told her mom that she wanted to sell the boys swing set and buy him a new one for his birthday, so the two of them asked if we wanted it for $200, this was a great deal so after we asked several questions we bought it.  Well the birthday came and went, and the little boy didn't get a swing set.  We asked what happen and well the kids mom bought drugs with the money and has moved out.  I feel so bad, this little boy keeps asking us for his swing set back, he doesn't understand that we bought it.  He did play  on the swing set almost everyday.  I just don't know what to do, now my DS loves the swing set and plays on it everyday.  We live right next door too : (

I am not close to my neighbor (with my upbringing in a cult) I trust no one, but I do trust the kid enough to play with my son.  I think that would help my son get over being shy LOL,

Awe!  What an awful thing to do.  Poor boy.  Did you offer to let him play when your son is outside too?

I agree

Quoting FabDarling:

that's a terrible situation to be in.

i'd offer to let him play on it with your son - or alone (as long as grandma is watchng him).....so he doesn't get hurt.

I would allow him to play any time, as long as the Grandma is watching...BUT...I would make it 100% clear the childs mother is at no time allowed on your property for any reason.

That is a horrible situation. I am not sure waht I would do. But I would tell them that he is always welcome to come over and play on it.
