At 5 I would say a fair amount would be 5 dollars a week

My dd is 12 and gets 20 a week

No my children do not get allowance.

Not right now anyway.  Anytime we give them money they always choose to put it in the vacation jar.

Thank you for posting this. I have been thinking of starting it for my son and step son. They are 5.5 and 6. My son loves to help feed the animals and help with laundry.

No. But I have started paying them to do chores. 10 cents for every pair of socks, 50 cents for putting their clean laundry away, 50 cents for making their bed and putting their dirty laundry away. $1 for dishes. etc....

we dont do allowance but we do reward-type activities. trips to the park, trips to the mall, chuck-e-cheese, skating, etc.

We don't give allowance. They have chores but that is part of family. They also join in the fun things too.

I like this

Quoting Lurion:

I give my kids $1 for every year old they are.

Then I take a mandatory $1 "deduction" for charity. They are involved in which charity they want to donate to. My 7 y/o mentions it often "mommy, right that I'm sending money to kids who don't have enough to eat?
