Do you prefer winter or summer, if you don't have to plan around school schedules? I like winter, going to some place warm.
I like a little of both, it's nice to get away more then once a year even if it's just small trips.
We do a summer vacation in July (this year it's all day trips that week) .. but we aim to do more tropical vacations in April when our daughter is on vacation (our week isn't the same as everyone else's, so there's no price hikes or crowds to deal with most of the time, which is nice!) I also take a few days in August to do a solo beach trip and in November around Thanksgiving to get Christmas stuff done.
I like to go warm places in the winter, and cool places in the summer. I hate being hot. We take a week long family vacation between May and September, and we'll start taking another week over Christmas break since my daughter starts Kindergarten this year. Spring break is still undecided right now.
