Starting Fresh! Have you ever....?

Have you ever moved to a new city? Even before you'd found a job?

With tax season here and my home life kinda sad, I am tempted to make a fresh start elsewhere! Mainly California.. I am from there, moved to NYC in 2004 to go to school (with the intention of returning to the Bay Area soon after graduation) but got pregnant and started a family with someone who made all types of promises that didn't come through :-( Now I'm ready to leave the cold, skyscrapers, the REDICULOUS rent costs.... to return to hot dry summers and mild winters and my own place to raise my kids!

Have you ever just seized the moment and moved?

I have. Well We have. We moved to TX about 2 1/2 yrs.ago. We came with only our clothes and t.v. We sold everything else to get enough money to rent a place, pay for the gas down here and 1st months utilities. Dh and I had no jobs. We still don't know a lot of people. My in laws live here though. Its ok. Its not home (Chicago). Things are good in a lot of ways but also difficult in a lot of ways. I would say if the opportunity presents itself maybe you should really consider it. If not you'll look back and regret it. Good luck and keep us posted :)

Yep. After being physically abused constantly, by a family member I had enough. I drove an old ass car. Filled up with gas, and drove North!! I had to drop out of my current college, and re enroll in a new one. I was really broke and jobless, and all I had was my savings and my 20 yr old car. Luckily, I had a cousins who let me live with her until I could get my own place. Life was not easier, but at least no one hit me. :-)

I wish you good luck if you do decide on a move. And yes, keep us posted. I like change. It's kind of like erasing and starting over.

Yes we have, fairly close though, 100 miles north so I get to go back to my home town pretty often to see my family and friends. I have a hard time making new friends, I guess been close to the old ones doesn't leave me time nor the need.

Thank you ladies, I love you're responses! Whether alone or with partners, big moves can be scary and exhilerating... my fears hold me back but I'm trying to flex my courage muscle! My husband and I are divorcing and there's no way for me to be independent in NYC on my income! And I haaaate winters! With an almost 4 yr old and 20 month old boys, most days its too cold to go more than a couple blocks, they've always got coughs and runny noses, and drive me crazy bouncing off the walls with cabin fever! I've seen a few good job options out there but I'm scared they won't hire me bc I'm still in NY!

Tempted to just leave and take my kids and a lump sum of money to start fresh! We'll see if I get the willpower to fllow my desires! I just feel bad taking them away from their dad...

I'm so glad you were able to remove yourself from an abusive situation!! You are a strong woman and I'm happy things worked out for you!

I did. There are times in your life when you have to take that leap with the faith that God will catch you.
