Alex O' Loughlin Goes to Rehab, Joins the Prescription Drug Addiction Club

Posted by Jacqueline Burt

alex o'loughlinAnd now for a change from your usual celebrity news story ... Hawaii Five-O star Alex O'Loughlin has reportedly entered rehab for "prescription drug issues." I know, I know -- an actor is in rehab?? For prescription drug issues??!! What strange sorcery is this?

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be glib. Really, I don't. It's just that the words "celebrity" and "rehab" go together like "chocolate" and "peanut butter." Two great tastes that taste great together! (Oops, went back to being glib for a minute there.)

Seriously though, throw "prescription meds" into the mix and you're basically in cliché territory. Why is this the case? Which came first, the celebrity status or the addiction?

Honestly, I don't care anymore.

Last week it was Gerard Butler. The week before that it was Whitney Houston (well, not the rehab part, but you know what I mean). Demi Moore. Charlie Sheen. And so on, and so on, and so on. The list is virtually endless.

It's not that I don't care, exactly -- addiction is painful and terrible and a very real disease. I'm just starting to think the fact that the world is notified every time they go to rehab and why they're going to rehab and when they're going leave rehab and what they were wearing when they left rehab isn't doing any of these celebrities any good.

And is it doing us any good to hear this same sad story over and over and over?

I doubt it.

Are you tired of hearing about celebrities going to rehab?

Yeah, I'm pretty much tired of hearing about it and I don't have too much sympathy.

Seriously what good is rehab if they are just going to go back in a month.
