A couple friend's of mine took his daughter for a well visit, her pediatrician took a look at her and flat out told her she was fat....FAT!! Not a bit overweight, she plainly called her FAT! And made that poor girl cry and she is 8yrs old for God's sake!!
The dr wanted to put her through all these blood tests and God knows what else to discard diabetes and high blood pressure and other life threatening illnesses...C'mon!! She is a perfectly healthy a bit chubby 8 year old girl. The mother told the dr that she was being insensitive saying all that in front of the kid and the father told her to F*#$& off.
He is looking for a different pediatrician (I even gave him the number of mine) and thinking of suing her (yes, the pediatrician is a woman) which I think it would be the right way to go. The kid is so hurt she wants to go on diets and have those slim shakes, you would think the dr being a woman would be more careful on not causing a complex on a little girl.
Shame on that dr!!
UPDATE: So they took her to a different dr. She is just a couple of pounds over her weight which the dr said it is not a big deal considering she is tall for her age but offered the parents the advice of giving her smaller portions if they were concerned about her becoming seriously overweight, which they were already doing since the previous incident.
I just had the same problem with my 12 year old daughter. I took her in for a check up and she got weighed. The dr told her she was overweight very rudely. Well she is the type of girl who eats a lot of veggies, we make homemade dinners and never eat out. About 3 months later I find out she has stopped eatting lunch at school altogether, she is a packer with salads and wraps as it is. Now NOTHING! Where do these doctors have the right to tell these YOUNG girls this. My daughter has lost a total of 25 lbs in 6 months because of that dr. now that is not right. Leave these young girls alone THEY WILL GROW UP AND FILL OUT at some point. If they don't by 16 then you might need to check what they are eatting and habits, in a nice way.
Tge doctor didn't make the kid fat the parents did!
Should they be reported for abuse since the girls only 8 and can't buy her own food and the persons she depends on to teach her how to live healthy... Are not!?
Doctors are not required to sugar coat anything..
Quoting singlemomw2grls:She should be reported!!
When did we start sueing doctors for caring enough to have an opinion? Just because half the country is more than a little overweight does not make it healthy or alright. Politically correct should never be a substitute for truth. A 'couple of pounds' over her weight would not have been mentioned by a doctor. What a horrifying thing for a parent to teach their child, to have a foul mouth and show such disrespect to a concerned health professional. If you are worried about a child feelings, find a different doctor. If you truly are concerned for her self esteem and well being, teach her to eat right to start with. A child tall for her age should be a bit thinner, not heavier. A different doctor would not have offered diet advice if she was a lil chubby. Maybe her hurt feelings will save her from wallowing her life away encased in fat later. When did people stop wanting the best for their kids?
The mother had been in charge of her diet. Thats where the problem started. People should be prosecuted for teaching their children to eat the way some do. Fat parents most commonly make fat children.
