I just joined because i have an important question

Its been bugging me, and I would really like to know. And this is the only group i feel i could get real answers from. 

my relationship with my MIL hasnt always been great, but its getting better, and i hear from my brother in law that its just how she is, and she was the same with my BILs wife too.

My question, while its really none of my business, as it is her religion and not mine, still makes me curious. and my husband, being that he grew up with her, tells me nothing is going on.

my MIL is Spanish catholic. my family is roman catholic from Italy.

i never thought there was a huge difference between the 2. but some of my MILs behaviors tell me, either she is not catholic, or Spanish catholic is VERY different.

she prays every night, in a special robe, with a cigar, inscents stuck into an apple, lintel beans on a plate, and various candles. 

Does this mean anything to anyone? can anyone explain it?

Mil is also Catholic, she does this too, she has little statues of saints she prays to

But then again my Mom practices Santeria, and does similar stuff, so idk what to tell you

That sounds more like santeria and that has nothing to do with the catholic religion.

see, i was thinking santeria, but DH says she isnt lol. maybe he is in denial. he is very catholic.

well she is a legal citizen here in the US. she was born in Obregon Mexico.
