Hey everyone I haven't been on much as I've been extremely busy with school and kids and life in general lol.. Anywho I decided to drop by and ask for some advice about Kaylee my 8 yr old who has Chiari 1. She had her 1st (and hopefully last) decompression surgery in Sep of last yr. She healed very nicely with very very little scaring. You can't even hardly tell she had anything done.. Kaylee. however REFUSES to have her hair up in a pony tail.. For a while I let it go but it's getting to be summer now and she has very long beautiful red hair and she gets hot easy.. She had field day last Fri and refused her hair in a pony and she had a miserable time with her hair and sweating... I asked repetitively if she wants her hair up and she just said no that she was fine.. I felt so bad for her... She then told me later that night that she doesn't want it up because she's afraid ppl will make fun of her.. :-( It broke my heart... I don't want her to feel like that.. I want her to feel comfortable with everything. I need some advice please on what to tell her maybe.

Awww. Kids can be so cruel, so I guess I can understand her fears. But kids also are fascinated with stuff, and they might find it incredibly cool that she had "brain" surgery. Maybe if you put it to her from that angle, she won't be so scared about it. Teach her how to explain about her condition, and what she had done, in an age-appropriate way.
