That's a great idea! Are you looking for something that you can have engraved or with a message?

Check this out: It's a personalized garden stone. It's available at Walmart.com and you can choose 2 lines of text  to have engraved. (It looks like the text would be sufficient for a name and/or date, perhaps) Cost: $24.96

If you think you might like to try your hand at making one, this provides a step-by-step guide  and, according to the author, cost less than $3.

genabella took the words out of my mouth. I was gonna suggest Walmart for the stone, too. Sometimes, local hardware and craft stores have good deals, too. And I would check garden stores for little angels. Or search online.

I like the idea of the angel statue...maybe a praying little gir/boy?  They sell those at craft stores or home stores, but it may be out of season to find those.

We bought those stepping stones that you mix up and decorate with little rocks and it comes with alphabet stencils...that may be an idea too.  We got them at Target for like $5.

I would check garden ridge if you have one close, or hobby lobby- they have sales every other week on half the store (literally) and always have pretty things.
