What types of natural remedies do you girls know about? I'm just now getting into making all my own cleaners and such, I'd love to know some things you swear by as far as natural remedies.
For instance, the smell of green apples making a headache feel less severe.
I figured this would be pretty perfect for an extreme makeup group, because it seems "natural" things are a pretty extreme concept these days! LOL!
So, tell me Grandma's secrets.
hmm...baking soda/water paste on bee stings,etc..
umm.....
hmmm..
eh...
you can brush your teeth with baking soda
ummm...
mhhhhmm...
pressure points?
lol, i'm bad at this, i have no idea!
Hey, the bee sting one is awesome! I'm going to call my Grandma and pick her brain, lol!!!
I'm not very good with natural remedies, but my grandma used to put cold cream on our bee stings. It did an amazing job! Also, a trick I recently learned is to take a baking soda bath to relieve redness and sting from minor burns.
My grandma used to do something similar, Sierra.
Also, epsom salt baths for muscle aches. That one I LOVE. It actually seems to melt muscle stress away! I took an epsom salt bath at least once a week when I was pregnant with Veronica, because goodness knows her big heavy ass was killing me! LOL!
oh i would so try that epsom salt bath...but i'm afraid of baths lol, i'm weird, i don't find them relaxing at all
LOL @ being afraid of baths. You're like my Mom. She's like, "Aaaaack, baths are like a cesspool of grossness, fungus and dirt. It's a yeast infection waiting to happen. Ewwwww, ew, ew.".
I was like, "Well dang, woman, you're not supposed to wash your bathtub with mushrooms...I use clorox wipes muh-self".
Baking soda has about 93807407075 uses haha. My grandmom can tell you all of them....Aloe, like a REAL aloe plant is amazing at healing, obviously very good on burns. The stuff you get at the drugstore is usually mixed with some chemicals and has alcohol in it which makes it counter productive, but most markets have whole aloe plants that you can buy for pretty cheap. Hmmm Idk, I'll have to talk to my mom she has plenty im sure :)
OOO and I just thought of something else, if you're getting into the whole all natural and DYI stuff, theres a magazine (part of the martha stewart line hah) called Whole Living(used to be called body + soul.) and it's freaking awesome. Tons of how to and just better ways to do things for you and the earth. I got it in a 2for 1 deal when i subscribed to the Everyday Food magazine (absolutely amazing if you want easy quick and insanely good recipes.) Just a reccomendation i thought of when I saw my newest issue of it on the table lol
Use straight vinegar and newspaper to wash your windows and mirrors (no streaking), use Strawberries to whiten your teeth, and to kill the burn of a sunburn take a lukewarm bath with a cup of vinegar in it. Vinegar will take out the burn. :-) I have oodles of em.' My Gram used to preach these to us on a regular basis. LOLOLOL
Oh and Sierra, if you're ever out and about and get stung by a bee, MUD works just as well!!!! It helps to draw out the sting and chances are, you can find it ANYWHERE (well anywhere but here in the desert..LOLOL)
You can use lemons for bunches of things.
You know how sometimes your elbows will get discolored? Well cut a lemon and dip it in sugar. And scrub your elbows with it. It bleaches the color away.
And you can whiten your teeth with lemons. Just put toothpaste on your brush like normal and then squeeze a fresh lemon onto of the toothbrush. Doesn't taste great....but it works.
Also if you have dry skin around your nose and on your lips dip a washcloth in sugar and use it as a scrub.
