Frustrated with meds

My primary care believes that my headaches and migraines are being caused by the lithium after seeing her twice about it.

I Have had some problems with beginning to go into mania and stayed up for two nights straight so I called my doc.  She did get back to me and put me back on seroquel, a lower dose, and I am still taking the lithium.  Yes, I am sleeping but I worked hard to lose 6lbs since I've been off of it.

I am worried about the long term problems of being on a med like seroquel, diabetes, obesity, lower life expectancy, being a zombie, cognitive and memory problems.

My only other two options are latuda or saphris.

what are the side effects of the latuda and saphris? are they safer to take?

I looked them up a while ago, and one of them says to avoid the sun! I forget which one. I have to look them up again.  They are the same class as seroquel but newer.

It is difficultl when you have side effects of the medications. My side effects of the medications are very dry mouth and some tar-dive dyskinesia I am on Seroquel, but don't have the weight gain. Hope you find something that helps you and without the side effects. Sending  hugs and take care.

They might be worth a try, because our bodies get use to the medications we take and they can loss their effectiveness. I know I have switched from zoloft to lexapro to welbrutrine now. And I still get down at times.

Sounds like you might have to become your own mini-pharmacist so you have a list of meds that you want to try and stay away from the next time you see your doc.  That is what I have had to do with mine.  At first he laughed (nicely, we have a good reporte), but he knows that I take my meds, health, and money very seriously, plus he has limited time to spend with me.

THat seems to happen to me, if I don't have some nasty side effect that is unbearable, then the meds that do work just stop after several months.

I think its a good Idea for anyone to be like their own pharmacist in a way.  I know I certainly am.  After having such awfuld docs who overmedicated me in the past I really studied every med.  I have had a good doc for 3 years and I hope she never retires.  She loves the fact I know about meds we talk about what I looked up.  I had to go back on meds 6 mopost partum and I gave her a bunch of technical research on some mood stablizers and lactation.  She was very impressed with that and its part of why if I am going manic or super depressed she isn't so quick to throw my in the hospital.  She sees I am trying to improve my mental health.

Sometimes the side effects aren't worth it. Are there any other meds you can try?
