Question about Risperdal and Abilify...

Hello ladies. So I made a post about 2 weeks ago asking if anybody that has taken Risperdal had gained weight while taking it. My dr only put me on it while Im waiting for the patient assistance for Abilify to come through, sorta to hold me over until then. It kinda seems to be helping but I hate this weight gain. I still cant figure out why these companies make psych meds that add weight to you. Anyway, when the Abilify comes through (hopefully any day now) I will switch over to that instead, along with my other meds. For those of you that have taken Abilify, will some of this extra weight come off once I switch, or will Abilify make me fat too? Im like 5'6" and somewhere around 205 lbs. Im not HUGE, but Im really not liking this. Im umcomfortable cuz my clothes are tight. Idk, just makes no sense to me to give a depressed woman who also has anxiety a pill that makes her fat! Smdh :-(

Abilify didn't do anything for me no weight gain, no weight loss, no help with my symptoms.

Just out of curioisty if you are depressed and anxious, did they give a reason why they are giving you antipsychotics?  Have you tried an anti-dpepressant and anti anxiety med?  Some anti-depressants like paxil and celexa help with anxiety too.

Oh wow, so youve been LOSING weight on it?! Hmmm. Have you been trying super hard to lose the weight, you know, like massive dieting and exercising or did it just come off pretty easily? Oh, and congrats on the weight loss!

Well, it seems like Ive been on every med ever made. Ive been on the med roller coaster for 24 yrs. Right now Im on Prozac, klonopin, the Risperdal and minipress which is a b/p med but it helps with PTSD. I used to wake up EVERY single morning and have to fly out of bed to go throw up. That med cured that instantly! So, over maybe the past yr. or 2, my anxiety levels have gone back up pretty bad, pretty much turning into agorphobia. I HATE going outside of like a 2 mile radius from home. If I didnt HAVE to, Id never leave my house. Also, the social anxiety has gotten way worse too. Pretty much if I didnt have my boys, I would no longer be here. I hate life and pretty much always have. My boys are the ONLY thing keeping me alive. So, my dr wanted to add Abilify as an add on to see if it helps. Thats it in a nutshell.

That sucks. I can totally relate. The only 2 meds ive not tried are saphris and latuda and I may be going on one of them soon.

I know youve been having a really hard time too lately. Sorry :-( I had never even heard of either of those 2 meds until like a week or 2 ago on here. Actually I think you posted about them. Are they for depression or anxiety or what? Are they new?
