Sometimes it's so much easier to just say "Fine" than try to get into it with somebody about how you're really feeling.
I do since I am a very private person
Wow that is me in a nutshell
FINE - F (Feelings) I (Inside) N (Not) E (Expressed)
I say it to everyone but my best friend. Even my husband most of the time. I just don't like to talk about my feelings. I would much rather hear about them.
How many of us are ever asked this except in passing? I can't remember the last time someone came up to me when I was sitting or standing around and asked how I was. They only ask while passing in the hall, so you can only do the following answers, or similar.
"good/great"- yay! People say this a lot and usually I think it's true
"fine"- could be anything, usually there is no thought involved. I have said this in absolute despair BUT also in great joy. Agreed that with people I don't trust, I tend to use this one.
"OK"- not as good as fine. I take this as a call for help.
<shrug> when the person can't even talk, that's definitely a sign of issues
I do that a lot. I shut down a lot when it comes to asking about my feelings, especially if I feel on the defense.
yup, this is for when you slap on that smile & just say "oh pretty good" Or some other super quick answer so you can get away. because no way are you really going get into it w/ so and so about how you really feel.
I say "I'm fine" all the time!!
