Why do dreams have to die? A poem I wrote

Why do dreams have to die?

What once was a burning pyre is now a smoldering ember

Fizzling out until all memory of it is gone

I'm tired of my dreams dying

Tired of them being choked out by indecision, by my poisonous mind

That murders all innocence, all rational thought

Only to replace it with the madness, the irrationality of a mind bent on self destruction

Of self persecution, of vile torment

A mind eating itself from the inside out

Infested with maggots that distort the brains way of thinking

Leaving emptiness in its wake

Depression in its hollow footsteps

Stripping life of all meaning

Tearing apart the fabric of the soul

Why do dreams have to die?

So that madness can take over

Satan has won his final battle

The life that was is no more
