You gave me wings so I could soar

But like Icarus I almost touched the sun

You brought me down to earth

And saved my soul from the burning fire

You loved me when I wasn't lovable

Even when I swore that hate resided in my heart

I took your love for granted at times and for that I'm sorry

But the pain was already there, I thought it was too late for us

Too late to save our love

But my mind was telling me these lies

And I had started to believe them

I know that words can't change the hurt I've already caused

But if your heart can forgive me

I'll show you with more than words

A love I thought was gone

But only hidden from my frazzled mind

Now clarity has brought our love back from the dead

Revived it, changed it, restored it

Into something more beautiful, more special, more true

A bright light that shines from within my heart

And radiates around me

Shining for the world to see

The anger, the resentment, no longer blinds me

A peace has come over me, guiding me back to your loving arms

That is if you'll have me back

I know the pain I've caused has cut us both deeply

And time will only tell

If we can walk through this fire together

Stronger than before

Our love and God will guide us

From now as it was before

Thanks, Melissa. This illness is always hard on relationships. I feel like over the years I've done so much damage but at least I feel hopeful that things are and will get better. :)

I shared it with a close friend who's also a poet and she shared one with me that she wrote about her husband around the same time that expressed similar feelings. It was cool. We are definitly soul sisters. Lol
