In order to stay home with the kids (both under 2 yrs old) we had to find ways to cut our expenses.
Some of the ways we did were:
1 Got rid of cable TV. We invested in an analog converter box and antenna and get local channels. We also got a blue ray player to stream Netflix for $8/month and I get all the old episodes of shows I like and movies.
2. We shop at Walmart and get store brand and generic everything. And only buy cheap bulk food.
3. We follow Dave Ramsey's plan to get out of debt (He's a financial guru on the radio with Christian values and traditional money tips). We keep a budget and use the cash envelope system.
4. Switched to a baisc DSL plan with a 12 month introductory rate (ATT DSL 19.95/mo)
5. Got rid of our bundled telephone plan and got VOIPO phone service for like $7/month. www.GetVOIPO.com
6. We bought out our cellphone plan and switched to Walmart Family Mobile saving us hundreds of dollars a year.
7. We haven't realized the full potential of our Craigs List buys of a deep freezer and vacuum food sealer.
8. We buy much of our stuff at Sams Club, including discounted gasoline.
9. Audit insurance accounts, check for better prices
10 Sold car to get rid of payments. We bought a cheap car for cash.
11. Cancelled credit monitoring services.
12. Optimize energy use at home and heating and AC thermostat set for economy use.
I'm sure there's more, but it's late and I want to get this post done. Please consider making some changes if you are looking to save some serious money.
