Migraines

Any fellow sufferers here? I've had migraines since i was a kid, and have tried numerous things to get rid of them, prevent them, and nothing really works for me. I'm not a big fan of meds, and since i'm breastfeeding, i can't take anything right now anyway. Any migraine success stories? i'm at about the end of my rope with weekly debilitating headaches and an active 1 year old!

I've only had them once before and after the 4th day I broke down and bought aspirin (first time I'd had it in my life) with caffeine.  It solved it, and it's never come back.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that!

I still get them but not as bad as I used to. Mine are triggered by smells and weather changes mostly. Also tension. I hate meds and rarely take anything that's not a nice herb.  I use a Mygrastick and it helps some. So does just laying down with an ice pack.  I also get massage as often as I can and it helps so much.

ME!

I noticed pork and cheese triggered mine. Once I cut out pork and cut back on cheese: they have decreased DRAMATICALLY.  I know it's hard but try keeping a food log and if it's something you ate that triggered it.

Good luck, i feel your pain.

My daughter gets them, and she is always miserable for exactly 36 hours.  She has given up all meat, even seafood and it doesn't seem to have made a difference.  She's take ibuprofen (sometimes) and I bought some essential headache oils (she tried once), I'm hoping that I can find a way to treat them that she's comfortable with (she's 13).

Thanks for the input, ladies!!! i have never been able to pinpoint a food trigger, i'm pretty sure mine are due to hormones, and low pressure when the weather changes. it's just awful....i can pretty much count on not being able to eat anything, barely can drink water because i am throwing up all day, and just being in agony for  12-36 hours!

i'm going to check out this Mygrastick that Dest mentioned...i've never heard of it!

I don't suffer from them, but I've heard others advise lavender oil on othe temples. The scent of lavender is a wonderful headache treatment. Here's a list of some natural remedies for migraines. They look like good things to try!

I had horrible migraines growing up, but mine were stress induced. When I was living with my mom, who was emotionally and physically abusive, as well as, neglectful I would get them daily. It was horrible. As soon as 2pm came around I started feeling one coming on and by the time I was on the school bus at 3pm I was ready to throw up. I literally slept from the time I got home until next morning when it was time for school. That's the only thing that ever stopped my migraines was sleep and throwing up. I remember trying different meds specifically made for migraines, but they never worked until was 17 when I met my husband and left my whole life in the system behind. I was in group homes and foster homes since I was 15 because the state took me out of my moms custody.

They also did tons of testing on my brain, blood work ect, but nothing ever came up. That's when they tol me they were stress induced. I have only gotten a few since getting married 3 1/2 years ago, but I notice it's when things just get extremely tough in our lives.

Have you noticed what is striggering your migraines?

I'm glad your situation AND your migraines have improved! i've never found a specific trigger....i've kept food diaries, and couldn't come up with anything. i THINK they are mostly hormone, and weather related...seems like when the low pressure moves in, i get one. i'm also on the mini-pill for birth control, and one of it's side effects is migraines, so i'm shopping for new bc too. but even before i started on this pill, i've had them....

I had migraines (at least two a month,  some lasting 48 hours or more) for about 15 years.  They started when I was a teen,  and lasted through my entire 20's with a short break while I was pregnant.  I went on the pill maybe 6 years ago for the first time in my life,  and just went off of it last Fall and my migraines STOPPED.  A few months later I found out I have celiac disease so am now gluten free,  as well as caffeine free,  and mostly vegetarian, (I do eat fish occasionally still).  I tried to figure out food triggers all along,  I knew that smells and overstimulation and several other things triggered them,  but I think that for a lot of people it is hormone related.

i don't even think what I am saying is any help,  sorry... lol  Just want you to know I know how it feels and know how hard it is with a little one when you feel so miserable.  I really hope you can figure out a way to ease your suffering,  it really does affect quality of life,  I know.
