How to get healthier school lunches at your childs school....

I have a passion to create healthier school lunches at my children's schools, promote nutrition education and get kids more active.  First I enjoyed Jamie Olivers Food Revolution shows.  Then I heard about Michelle Obama's initiative Letsmove.gov just introduced June this year. Thru Let's Move one can pair up a Chef to a school to create healthy meals, This program is called Chefs Move To Schools.  Today I met our schools chef at our local farmers market!  She was doing a food demonstration, and she has great ideas to promote healthy eating! There is a lot of resources at the Letsmove.gov site.  Including TeamNutrition.USDA.gov. Please check it out.

Also you can get involved by telling congress that you support a bill that will help get healthier food options in vending machines, provide more funding for healthier school breakfasts & lunches.  I found the petition on Actionforhealthykids.org/, another good resource.

Without this bill – also known as Child Nutrition Reauthorization – we miss an opportunity to get healthier food in school vending machines and school meals. Some 120,000 low-income students will miss out on free meals. With 1 in 3 children overweight or obese and 1 in 4 at risk for hunger, that’s not an option.

Go here to sign the petition:

I support more money for healthier lunch and breakfast at school, and for offering healthier food in school vending machines. Congress must pass an improved child nutrition bill this summer. Our kids deserve better.

The twoangrymoms.com site was very interesting.  After viewing the 12 minute clip and other shorter clips I wanted to see more of the 86 min. movie.  For group viewing (screening) I was thinking the 60 minute version might make the point quicker, hold interest and allow time for discussion.  Anyone seen the twoangrymoms movie?
