i am so confused about my thyroid :(

I have had hypothyroidism since 2006, have treated it with levothyroxine since.  But the last several months I have been feeling like it is getting worse.  I am tired all the time, I have been very depressed... and a couple months back I was having muscle cramps so they did a tsh test (because usually they only do it once a year unless I'm having symptoms) and found out my level was low, indicating a need to decrease my levothyroxine so I dropped 50 mcg a day- from 250 to 200.  They said to come in again around 8 weeks later and test it again so I did and it is REALLY low this time, only at 0.17 which is HYPERTHYROID.  So they said to try taking 175 mcg instead but this is SOOOOOOOO weird that my thyroid is acting opposite yet I'm feeling the way I do and I'm confused and worried :(  If I was feeling more normal I wouldn't be worried but these symptoms are hypothyroid issues not hyperthyroid so I am about to scream.  I need help and not sure how to figure this out.... What should I ask my doctor?  I am gonna call tomorrow but I don't know what to say?  Should I ask for more tests?  What kinds of tests?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Are you seeing an endrconologist (sp)?

Dh has hypothyroid too. He was so sick and I had to force him to see a dr. That's when the discovered it. I don't really know much about it. Sorry.

yes but for my PCOS and the endocrinologist told me that she didn't find a reason to test my TSH except once a year or if having symptoms. she was also the one who tried to convince me I needed to quit breastfeeding.  I don't really like her to be honest.

My family doctor is usually much more willing to look into things and help, so I try to go thru them for everything if possible...

I ended up calling today because I am really frustrated.  The doctor called me back at like 6 and said they're switching me to a name brand synthroid to see if it changes anything.  I just don't understand if my levels are at hyperthyroid why my symptoms are all severely hypothyroid.  That makes no sense and I literally have nobody to talk to about this except the doctor and just hope and pray they do what needs to be done.

I'm hypothyroid too. You should get your T3, T4 and TSH levels checked, some doctors only do 2 of the 3 tests. Also you might want to switch to Synthroid, it's supposed to be better than Levothyroxine. I started on Synhroid and switched to Levo when my ins changed and haven't had any problems, but my dr did say Synthroid works better

If the brand doesn't help, I'd also consider switching doctors, as you say you don't really like her. A second opinion never hurts, either. Maybe call your regular Dr to tell him what's going on, too. Good luck.
