I have read that iodine is a natural remedy for hypothyroidism.

If I did I would go as natural as I possibly could. Once you start the meds you have to take them for the rest of your life.
My mom and dad were at one of her cousin's 50th wedding anniversary party, with a bunch of relatives and they discovered they ALL take Synthroid. Apparently that runs in the family...
I've never heard of anything that isn't really thyroid medication that works. Some people use dessicated thyroid but there are questions about the safety of that (potential prion source, among other things...)
I take pills daily synthroid. Had half of my thyroid removed due to cancer almost a year ago!
