Weight Watchers questions

There's a Weight Watchers group at work.  I went to the orientation meeting where I learned nothing about how it works, but was expected to pay and commit to several weeks of meetings and whatnot.  I left, but I saw who all stayed and paid.  Several weeks later, walking around the floor I can tell it worked for some people, but not at all for others.

Does anyone here do Weight Watchers? Did it in the past?  Did it work for you? Why or why not?  Do they actually educate you about food and exercise or is the motivation really just about being held responsible for your progress or lack thereof by other members?

I did it and had great success. For ME, I learned about portion control and when I ate healthier foods I could eat more.

I havent followed the plan in a few months but still use a lot of what I learned in my day to day life.

I didn't do Weight Watchers, but another one that I can't think of the name... I spent a lot of money and only lost 7 lbs. I know what and how to eat. Don't they sell Weight Watcher food in the stores? This is JMO. Here's a great site I found:

A co-worker of mine was doing Live Strong.  I did Calorie Count (http://caloriecount.about.com/) which was great and I lost inches and felt better...until I got tired of logging in my meals all the time.  I've been making less healthy choices since I stopped logging.  But at least it was free!

They do sell WW endorsed foods but it is not a requirment to eat them. I had them on had for moments I didnt have time to cook but I didnt really eat them all that much. I would urge people to not eat them, they aren't healthy for you. You are much better off eating whole, home made foods.  I kept them on hand because I thought they were better than getting take out at the last minute.........

I haven't done livestrong, but I think it's a great site. I think any of them will have you keep a log ;) Free sounds good to me!

I agree; I keep a couple of Lean Cuisines, or Kashi Go Leans on hand just in case; we eat fresh.

I am using the info I ind online (free) I checked this morning and in 3 days I lost 2lbs...  but that could be anything,,, and I am not really counting it... but you can find the info online... but if you need the support or other resorces... then I would suggests paying for it... but not everything works for everyone...

I use it because I need help with portion control... and it helps me...

WW is just another way to count calories. But they emphasize healthy foods - fiber and protein rich foods. A small meal with a bunch of empty carbs will be more points than one that is fiber and protein rich. In fact, all fruits & veggies are free foods!
It's not a carb free diet though. They talk about planning your meals and making good choices and being able to make a lifestyle change...it's not a "diet." You aren't supposed to feel deprived. And you can earn more points by exercising. WW promotes healthy eating, moving more and lifestyle change. And it works. If you do it. But because its not a diet, don't expect to lose more than 1/2 lbs to 2 lbs a week max.
