Popsicles with the Principal

I get status updates on my fb newsfeed from the blogger of 100 days of real food

and today she put this:

I'd love to pick your brains. In the past the "Welcome Committee" at our elementary school has offered a "Popsicles with the Principal" activity for new students who transfer to our school mid-year. I have the opportunity to suggest a different welcoming activity (that doesn't include highly processed popsicles!), and to be honest I don't see any value-add in incorporating any food at all.

What are your thoughts about having Popsicles with the Principal? Do you think they should use a different food? Or maybe not even food at all?

I think it's a cute idea. I would have loved my daughter doing that when she transferred to another school 2 years ago.

Maybe they could come up with something else?

I don't give me children popsicles :-/

Right. Why does it even have to involve food ?

How about Ping Pong with the Principal?

I don't think its a horrible idea.

At our school if you are "caught" being awesome, you earn a pass to eat lunch with the principal. My kids love it. Strive for it even. Its in a group setting outside of the lunch room. You eat whatever lunch you would normally be having that day.

Hi Jen!  I saw that post on my FB feed too.  I've seen her post about making suggestions for other incentives than pizza reward parties too.  I think it would be cool to have apples with the principal ;)

My kids would have stood around uncomfortably.

The only kinds of popcicles they ever liked were the ones we made at home -- plain gelatin with unsweetened juice, with or without added plain yogurt.

Really? Its a one time treat not a lifestyle. Now I agree that pizza parties are overused and fyi they really suck for students who are lactose intolerant. But a one time popsicle with the principal? Idk why it needs to change.
