Use body butter rather than lotion because when the water evaporates from the lotion it steals water from your skin.  Body butter has no water.

I make my own by steeping fresh ginger with coconut and vit e oil and cocoa butter. I also afd a few drops of essential oils. I suffer from eczema anf this has really helped.

Vaseline mix with lotion. Also put baby oil in bath water or any oil.

Do you take hot showers? If so, quit it! Try to shower every other day and when you do, make them as cool as you can stand. When you get out, put on your moisturizer. I love aquaphor and coconut oil.

Watch the water temperature.  If you take hot showers, you are just making dry skin worse because the heat robs your skin of oils.  I also switched to olive oil body wash and soaps, which has made a huge difference.  My skin not only started feeling less dry almost immediately, but I didn't have to use as much lotion.  I also love Aquaphor - it's my go-to for dry skin.  Also later on lotion immediately after taking a shower while your skin is still damp to lock in moisture.
