Have any of you ever done a couch to 5K program? What was your experience? Challenges? Successes? Do you recommend?

I also did it a few years ago. I had never run before, and it got me running. Once I hit the 20 minutes I started to do my own thing to get up to 3 miles for a race and then later I continued on to half marathon distance. It is a great program for someone who has never run, or has a really hard time running for more than a minute at a time.
