Just curious what your swimming workout is!
When I was swimming, I would mix it up every week. One day of short and fast intervals (25 or 50 yards), one with longer, maybe 400s, and one with a ladder (100, 200, 300, 200, 100). I actuall only swam twice a week normally, so they would just rotate. I wasn't really swimming more than 1200 yards in the pool (even for half ironman training), so I would just add on a short warmup and cool down and be done. All of my long swims were at the lake, which really helped my swimming, if you are doing an open water swim, try to do this at least once a week. I also tried making some swim plans on http://www.swimplan.com/, but I would get lazy and go back to my old stand by sets above. I think making sure you can at least swim as far as you need to (or just endurance n general) is more important than working on speed, if you are just starting out.

Yes, it's an open water swim. A little nervous about that one.
