Bisphenol A (BPA) a chemical commonly found in plastic containers and metal-can linings has been linked to various health problems including diabetes, obesity, cancer and ADHD.

So how to avoid it???

Read plastic labels

Polycarbonate plastics that contain BPA will have the letters PC or the recycling codes 3 and 7. Remember, even a plastic container labeled "microwave safe" may leach chemicals when heated.  Only use ceramic, porcelain or glass containers for storing and reheating leftovers.

Replace cans with cartons

Soups in cartons are good alternative sto their canned counterparts, many of which have tested positive for BPA.  Dr. McDougall's Ready To Serve soup comes in BPA-free packaging made with paper from sustainably managed forests.  Use powdered infant formula instead of canned liquid formula. Try Nature's One Baby's Only Organic Dairy Formula. (If you can't breastfeed, which is best of course)

Choose fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables

Another reason to use fresh produce. In addition to avoiding BPA, you'll also sidestep extra sodium, sugar and potential calories from the liquids used in canning.

Pick water bottles wisely

Opt for liner-less stainless steel or plastic labeled BPA-free instead of aluminum bottles which often contain liners made with epoxy resins. Glass water bottles, such as Lifefactory Beverage Bottles, purchase nonpolycarbonate options like Born Free.

Beware of plastic dishes

Avoid washing plastic dishes with hot water or harsh dish-washing soaps and discard any scratched or worn plastic containers. Scratches may harbor germs as well as lead to the greater release of BPA.

This is a great list! I would also add that there is not such thing as microwave-safe plastic.

 nice screen name (seriously)

Yes, this was a huge to-do 2 yrs ago. The number of moms on my due date group that were throwing away bottles and such.

If you are concerned about it, handwash the dishes, don't nuke them.
