How did you get started? Do your kids help?

I've never not composted, so I guess being born would be how I started...lol!  I'm pretty passionate about composting, recycling and growing our own food.  It's amazing that we take our recycling out each time they pick up, but regular trash?  We can go 4-6 weeks without having to take the can to the curb.  If our area would start recycling film (plastic bags, packaging around TP, carrot bags, chip bags, etc.) we may never have to put our trash out.

My son helps with gardening, but doesn't have the awareness to actually help with the process of composting.

Yes, we compost. We do it because composted material is great for our organic gardens. It also has the side benefit of resulting in less trash to go into the landfills. My son's help consists of emptying the kitchen compost bin into the big bin outside when he's asked to.

I built the coolest compost thingy once, I got it from a gardening book by P. Allen Smith.  It was really neat.  Check out his books at the library.
