My oldest dd is 3 1/2 years old. She has a history of her misquito bites getting infected, and we think she's allergic to them. Well today we had to take her to the doctor for another infected bug bite and when they weighed her I was shocked to see that she's only 22 lbs. She was stuck at 24 lbs for over a year, and now she's lost weight. The nurse said it's because she's getting taller, but she really isn't that tall. She's the height of a 24 month old, and she's 41 months. I don't know what to do. She eats all the time, loves food, but just can't gain weight. Does anybody have any idea of something I can do? I'm going to call her pediatrician tomorrow and see if maybe we should have tests run. (we had to see a different dr today because hers isn't in on Tuesdays).
She's actually the opposite of a picky eater. She'll eat anything. She loves all the weird foods my husband makes that not even I like. I am smaller framed, but my husband isn't. I never even considered her thyroid, I'll definately mention that as a possibility to her doctor.

I would have her thyroid tested. Is she a picky eater? Are you or your hubby naturally "small framed?"
also have her tested for diabetes.

I'm really hoping that this is what it is. I would much rather her have high metabolism then some disease. I was just so chubby at her age that it seems weird for her to be so tiny. But she is very active, loves running around!

I've been like her my entire life. I can eat all day long and not gain weight. Sounds like she has a high metabolism like I do.
Good idea. Diabetes runs in both sides of our family. I don't have it, and neither does my husband, but a lot of his relatives do.

hmmm I would also test for celiacs, along w/ the thyroid and such. but my guess is that she's just a kid w/ a high metabolism. She could also be doing that thinning out that kids do when they stop being a toddler and start being a kid. My oldest did that and I couldn't believe it that he could get thinner but he stayed w/ his growth curve.
She's definately reaching milestones! Everyone says she seems more like a 6 year old mentality wise, she can already read and spell. And definately very active! She also fits in size 24 months in most things. Yesterday she actually wore her 1 year old sisters shorts, which are size 12 months. They fit her perfectly!

It could just be her make up. My 4 year old is in size 24 months. She is very tiny and petite. As long as she is developing and meeting developmental milestones, active etc etc...is is proabably just her genetic make up. But ask the dr. My kids are all tiny mites.
