When to be concerned about 1 y/o losing her voice

Within the last month or so my 3 y/o girl got a virus and we all ended up catching it. (Of course.) She had an ear infection with stuffy nose and sneezing and a cough. I sanitized everything as best I could but little one (just turned 1 yesterday) caught it. She's pretty much over it, she got all the same symptoms but she had a DOUBLE ear infection with it and fever. Anyway, in the worst of it, she was coughing so hard she'd gag and make a loud noise with her voice, almost a scream. You could just hear it hurt to make a noise like that. Well anyway soon after a few of these coughs, I noticed when she'd try to squeak with glee a whisper would come out instead of her normal high pitched squeak. I figured her voice was damaged a little from coughing so hard. But now it's been about 2 weeks and she's feeeling better and hasn't coughed in a long time but I'm still hearing that whisper when she tries to hit certain notes with her voice. What was there before just isn't there now. Should I be concerned that she permanently has damaged her voice? What can I do?

I have the dr sears portable pediatrician and looked up hoarse voice (the closest I could find to this) and there is a couple paragraphs about vocal cord nodules that say they form from over use like screaming or possibly coughing and that they usually disappear over a few years (yikes!)  Further on it says if things persist more then two weeks though to call the Dr which is what I would suggest as well.
